James Watson "Jimmy" Poss, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024 in Tignall, Georgia at the age of 79. He was born on April 5, 1945, in Lincolnton, Georgia to the late James Edward and Emma Onelia Roberson Poss.
Jimmy honorably served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Hissen from 1965 to 1968 during the Vietnam War, demonstrating a profound commitment to his nation. Following his military service, he returned to a career in the textile industry. Jimmy worked for many years at prominent companies such as Graniteville Company, Sibley Mill, Milliken, and Mayfair Mills. A resident of Tignall for the last six years, Jimmy was known for his love of sports. More than just a spectator, he actively participated in church league softball and was an avid golfer. Jimmy's life was a testament to love and family. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 50 years, Elane Norman Poss, and a supportive father to his daughter, Jennifer Poss Henderson, and her husband, Lee; grandchildren, Allen Jameson "AJ" Henderson (Kylie) and Gracie Elizabeth Henderson; He is also survived by his brother, Robert Poss and wife Shirley; sisters-in-law, Mary Agnes Thurmond and Grace Norman; brother-in-law, Tony Norman; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his sisters and their husbands, Elizabeth Carver (James) and Mary Riggs (Edgar). His absence will be deeply felt, but the legacy of his character—marked by his faith, integrity, and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures—will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 2pm at Jones Chapel Cemetery with Dr Preston Sanders officiating.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6pm until 8pm at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton.
