Mr. James Lester Reed, a native of Lincoln County and life-long Augusta resident, entered into rest on January 20, 2017. A decorated Purple Heart Award recipient, Mr. Reed was a member of the 101st Airborne Glider division which saw action in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. Mr. Reed was also recognized as a 50 year Master Mason 32nd Degree serving at the George Walton Lodge in Augusta, GA and he was an ALEE Shriner. A loving and devoted husband, he is predeceased by his wives, Ms. Vivian Aycock Reed (1975) and Ms. Dorothy Rowell Reed (2015). Mr. Reed is survived by a brother, Talmadge Reed of Lincolnton, Ga, sister Glenda Hines of Evans, GA, daughter Patsy Reed McDow of Evans, GA and daughter Brenda Salley of Columbia, SC. Mr. Reed is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home in Lincolnton, GA on Monday January 23, 2017 and the funeral will commence at 2 p.m. on Tuesday January 24, 2017 at Pine Grove Methodist Church in Lincolnton. Mr. Reed will receive a military honor funeral with the Reverend Rick Herring of Pierce Memorial Methodist Church officiating the Home Going ceremony. Interment will follow in Lincolnton City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mr. Reed's grandsons Greg Holley, Scott Hudson, James Holley, Christopher Hudson, William Holley and Reed McDow. The family asks that well-wishers to "Gran Gran's" Home Going either contribute to the Shriner's Children's Hospital or bestow a simple act of kindness upon a veteran of our United States Armed Services.
