Inez (Denham) Nichols

McDuffie County

Inez Denham Nichols, 92, of Thomson, Georgia, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Lake Crossing Health Center in Appling after a long battle with dementia. She was the beloved wife of the late James R. Nichols.

Mrs. Nichols was a native of Lincoln County but moved to Thomson in 1944. A 1949 graduate of Thomson High School, Mrs. Nichols became the primary "breadwinner" in her family in her late teens when her father became unable to work, and among the places that she worked during her adult life were Milliken, Briarwood Academy, Thomson Presbyterian Church, and McGill & Associates Land Surveyors. During the years that her daughter was growing up, she was predominantly a stay-at-home wife and mother.

Inez was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother who without fail put the needs of her family ahead of her own. Although she was in her late seventies when she became a grandmother, she embraced that role fully and had a particularly special relationship with her grandson, Price. The impact of her life on those whom she loved was tremendous, and it will live on through those who survive and remember her with love.

Inez is preceded in death by her husband, James R. Nichols; her parents, Bennie and Lillie McDonald Denham; her brothers, David Denham and Harris Denham; her sister, Mildred Ashley; and her stepdaughter-in-law, Carolyn Quinn Nichols. She is survived by her daughter and stepchildren, Lee N. Robinson (Claude) of Thomson, Elizabeth Felker of Beech Island, SC, Curtis Nichols and Ronnie Nichols, both of Aiken, SC; her grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Price Robinson and Mariah Robinson of Thomson; Paul T. Felker (Mia) of Jacksonville, FL; Jeannie Nichols of Aiken, SC; Michael Nichols of Atlanta, and Elizabeth Monahon of North Augusta, SC; and seven step great-grandchildren and two step great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Her visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia with a graveside service, officiated by Dr. Brandon Furr, to follow immediately afterward at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Inez spent the last six years of her life at Lake Crossing Health Center. Her family is grateful for the kindness and care she received at this stage of her life both from the staff during this time as well as from the nurses of Georgia Hospice during her last days.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored with memorials made to Briarwood Academy, 4859 Thomson Highway, Warrenton, Georgia 30828.  Please visit www.beggsfuneralhome.net to sign the family's personal guestbook.

Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, Georgia is honored to serve the family of Inez Denham Nichols.
