Ikuko Motohashi Bouknight

Ikuko Motohashi Bouknight, a beacon of kindness and creativity, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, at the age of 96, in Augusta, Georgia. Born on January 11, 1928, in Tokyo, Japan, to the late Komasabro and Shizue Motohashi Chujo, Ikuko's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and artistry. Ikuko's journey brought her from the bustling streets of Tokyo to the warm embrace of the United States, where she established her home and heart. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Clarence Bouknight, with whom she shared a life filled with joy and companionship. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her sister-in-law, Faye Ergle, as well as by her adoring nieces and nephews, who saw her as a second mother and a guiding light. A homemaker by profession, Ikuko poured her soul into creating a nurturing environment for all who crossed her threshold. Her home was not just a dwelling but a place where friends and family were always welcomed with open arms and a warm meal. She believed that the heart of the home was in the kitchen and the garden, and she tended to both with equal passion.  She and her late husband were members of the Lincoln County Historical Society and were very helpful whenever needed. Ikuko's love for gardening was evident in the vibrant vegetables and the kaleidoscope of flowers that adorned her garden. She found solace in the rhythm of nature and took great pride in the bounty her garden produced. This love extended into her other pursuits as well—knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Each stitch and seed sown was a testament to her patience and attention to detail. Not only did Ikuko create beauty with her hands, but she also spread joy through her thoughtful gestures. She never missed an opportunity to send birthday, get well, or holiday cards, touching the lives of many with her words of encouragement and celebration. Her cards were more than mere paper; they were extensions of her caring spirit. Those who knew Ikuko will remember her as the epitome of kindness and friendliness. She greeted everyone with a smile that could light up a room and a warmth that made each person feel special. Her creativity was not just in the crafts she made but in the inventive ways she found to bring happiness to others. A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church by the Lake in McCormick on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at  10:30 AM,  followed by an inurnment in the church's columbarium.

In the quiet corners of her beloved garden, in the intricate patterns of her knitwear, and in the heartfelt words of her cards, Ikuko Motohashi Bouknight's spirit will forever bloom and resonate. Her departure leaves behind a legacy of love and creativity that will continue to flourish in the hearts of those she loved.
