Thomson, GA- Mr. Hoyt A. Haulbrook, Jr., 90, beloved husband of the late, June Veal Haulbrook entered into rest January 15, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014 in the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home with Dr. Wilfred Bellamy and Rev. Tom Kalliokoski officiating. Interment will follow in the Wrens City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday. Pallbearers will be: Michael Jones, Jimmy Williams, Billy Gay, Phillip Haulbrook, Austin Haulbrook and Matt Storey.
Hoyt was born in Louisville, GA to the late Helen Lampp Haulbrook and the late Hoyt Ash Haulbrook, Sr. He graduated from Wrens High School in 1941 and went on to proudly serve his country during World War II in both the Merchant Marines and the United States Army. While in the Army he fought in the Battle of The Buldge and the Battle of Central Europe earning the rank of Staff Sergeant and being honorably discharged in 1945. In 1948 he married June, and in the early 1950's they moved to Thomson and made their home. Hoyt worked for the Georgia Power Company and retired in 1986 after 32 years of service. He was a faithful and devoted member of Thomson Presbyterian Church, where he served over the years as treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, deacon and elder. Hoyt was known to be a great cook, and he used his talent to cook breakfast for the Mission Conference at the church for 33 years.
He and Bob Gibson, Sr. also started Boy Scout Troup 333 sponsored by the Thomson Presbyterian Church where he served as a scout master.
Hoyt was preceded in death by six siblings, Helen H. Williams, Frankie H. Jones, Elizabeth Haulbrook, Mabel Haulbrook, Kate H. Gay and Robert W. Haulbrook.
He is survived by his 2 children, Harriet Haulbrook of Augusta and Danny H. Haulbrook (Kelly) of Texas; 3 grandchildren, Austin Haulbrook (Jessica), Erin H. Flores (Joshua), Bethany H. Hille (Jason); 4 great grandchildren, Alexis Bradley, Zora Haulbrook, Noah Haulbrook and Isaiah Flores and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to convey their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to his caregivers, Doris and Etherine for their faithful and compassionate care and to Trinity Hospice, especially Susan and Sandra for their outstanding caring. We also appreciated the dedication of the following doctors and their staff, Dr. David Allen, Dr. Donald Townsend and Dr. John Velky in the long term care provided.
