Howard “Gene” Eugene Lambert

Howard Eugene Lambert, known fondly to friends and family as Gene, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia. Gene was born in Dayton, Ohio, on July 23, 1932, to the late Howard and Bernice Hathaway Lambert.

Gene's early years were spent in Dayton, where he discovered his lifelong passion for printing at McCall's Printing Company. His dedication to the craft was interrupted only by his patriotic service in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Gene answered the call to serve his country at the young age of 20 and continued his service until 1960, demonstrating the bravery and commitment that would define his character throughout his life.

Upon returning to civilian life, Gene resumed his work at McCall's Printing, where he honed his skills as a printing press expert until 1983. That year marked a new chapter as he moved to Lincoln County and took on the role of supervisor at W.F. Hall Printing in Evans. His colleagues remember him as a steadfast and dedicated worker, whose expertise and leadership were invaluable to the team.

Gene's dedication to his craft did not wane with retirement. He transitioned to a role in maintenance with Georgia State Parks, working at Elijah Clark State Park and, briefly, at Mistletoe State Park. His commitment to public service continued until he retired fully at the age of 91, likely holding the record as the oldest state employee. Beyond his professional life, Gene was a man of deep faith. His well-worn Bible was a testament to his devotion, its pages bearing the marks of countless readings and reflections.

Gene's creative spirit found joy in fishing, building, and crafting. He was an adept craftsman, with many pieces of furniture in his home standing as excellent examples of his handiwork. His talent extended to the art of making handmade fishing lures, a hobby that combined his love for fishing with his skillful hands. Survivors include his daughters, Bobbie L. Honeycutt and husband Mike and Vickie L. Field all of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Heather Donnelly and husband Pat, Joshua Atkins, Shawn Roberts and wife Suzanne, Rebecca Evans and husband Richard and John- Michael Field; 13 great- grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren; brothers, John Brohas and Ricky Brohas; sister-in-law, Jenny Bake. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Alice Marie Sampson Lambert and his son-in-law, John D. Field, Jr.

Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton is honored to serve the family of Mr. Howard Eugene Lambert.
