Hershel James Wood

Hershel James Wood, known affectionately to his friends and family as Hershel, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2024, in Thomson, Georgia. Born on December 1, 1954, in the serene town of Waynesville, North Carolina, Hershel spent his childhood surrounded by the picturesque beauty of the mountains, an environment that instilled in him a lifelong appreciation for the simplicity and splendor of nature. Hershel's early years in Waynesville were filled with the love and guidance of his parents, Joseph Thomas and Nellie Frady Wood, who preceded him in death. He was a sibling to his brothers, Joseph Thomas Wood and John Wesley Wood, who survive him, and to James Milas Wood and Barbara Jean Wood, who passed before him. A testament to his hardworking and industrious spirit, Hershel dedicated several years of service to Rekord Manufacturing, where he was highly regarded for his skills in maintenance. Those who knew Hershel will remember him for his handy nature, a quality that was as much a part of his character as his warm smile and generous heart.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 5pm until 9pm at Next Level Sports Bar in Washington Hershel's remains will be interred near his mother, honoring his wish to be laid to rest in the company of his beloved family. The date for the burial will be determined at a later time.
