Herschel Theodore "Ted" Smith

Herschel Theodore Smith, known to family and friends as Ted, passed away on April 8, 2026, in Augusta, Georgia, at the age of 61.

Ted was born on October 1, 1964, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Herbert Lee Smith and Laverne Irvin Smith. He was a graduate of Towers High School in Decatur, Georgia, and carried with him a strong work ethic and deep commitment to his family throughout his life.

Ted was a devoted husband to Elizabeth Smith and a proud father to his son, Herbert Theodore Smith, and his daughters, Samantha Anne-Marie Smith and Amanda Lea Smith. He was a loving grandfather to Adalynn Jane Smith. His family was the most important part of his life. He loved spending time with them and made the most of every moment they had together, whether it was fishing, swimming, or simply being with one another. He took pride in teaching them the values that guided his own life.

Ted was the owner and operator of HTS Builders, where he worked as a self-employed general contractor. He was a skilled carpenter who took pride in his work and built a reputation for quality and reliability.

He owned and operated Bar-S Ranch, a cattle ranch passed down to him by his father, Herbert Lee Smith. He worked diligently to care for the land and animals, having a deep love for both. The ranch was something he took great pride in and meant a great deal to him.

Ted was a Baptist and lived his life with strong faith, integrity, and humility. He will be remembered as an honest and loving man who believed in doing what was right. He valued time with his family above all else and brought joy to those around him with his sense of humor and genuine happiness.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Smith; his son, Herbert Theodore Smith and daughter-in-law, Grace Elizabeth Smith; his daughters, Samantha Anne-Marie Smith and Amanda Lea Smith; his granddaughter, Adalynn Jane Smith; and his brother, Don Williams.

Ted will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A private ceremony will be held at a later time.
