Grant Winstead

McCormick, S.C.

Mr. Grant Leonard Winstead, 75, of McCormick, S.C., entered into rest on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

Grant was born in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Herbert and the late Monica Lillygren Winstead. He worked for Vickers his entire professional career and retired as Director, Product Sales from Eaton (Vickers) Corporation after 37 years of service. He completed his undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Arts, General Studies) from Oakland University and his graduate degree (Masters – Advanced Management Program) from Michigan State University.

He moved to Savannah Lakes Village in 1997 from Rochester Hills, Michigan. He was a devoted member of the Lutheran Church by the Lake, and he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley Davidson. He enjoyed driving fast – whether it was dirt bikes, muscle cars, or street bikes. He particularly enjoyed traveling around the country to visit with his children, especially with frequent trips to his  home state of Michigan for deer hunting (North Branch) and steelhead fishing (Au Sable River). He loved to be close to the ocean with many trips to Myrtle Beach as well as trips to Kiawah Island, Hawaii, and Daytona Beach.  A lover of nature, he enjoyed being outdoors and tending to his garden, plantings and smelling the flowers.

Grant also was very involved in his local community by volunteering at the John De La Howe Wilderness Program for troubled youths and as a logistics supporter when the U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations Command held military exercises in McCormick County. Most of all he deeply loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Anna Winstead, sons, Scott (Sandy) Winstead, of Midland, Michigan, and Kirk (Adrienne) Winstead, of Mars, Pennsylvania, daughter, Beth (Jesse) Angeles, of Roseville, California, brother, Dave (Linda) Winstead, of Lapeer, Michigan, sister, Carol (Tom) Strzelecki, of Auburn Hills, Michigan, stepson Boyd (Ginny) Webb, of Lexington, South Carolina and eleven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the Lutheran Church by the Lake with Rev. James Kinsler officiating.

In lieu of flowers, it is the family's desire that memorial contributions be made to the Lutheran Church by the Lake Building Fund, 100 Twelve Oaks Drive McCormick, S.C. 29835, or John De La Howe Wilderness Fund, c/o Josh Sandt, 180 Bereau Drive, McCormick, S.C. 29835.
