Mrs. Grace Thornton Hunter, 95 of Sandy Cross Rd., Crawfordville, Ga. entered into rest on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Tignall House, Tignall, Ga.

Mrs. Hunter, daughter of the late Manuel Clarke and Ruby Jordan Thornton, was born in Wilkes County on March 27, 1925. She spent most of her adult life in the Sandy Cross Community of Taliaferro County and was a faithful member of the Sandy Cross Baptist Church where she served as church treasurer for many years as well as Sunday School teacher. Throughout her life, she was employed as a seamstress at Royal Manufacturing and a sales clerk at W.T. Johnson's and Scarborough's. In recent years, she was devoted to keeping the WMU active. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, and cooking. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren, their children and grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Steed Hunter; son, Manuel Hunter; and brothers, Eugene J. Thornton, Sr. and Clarke Thornton.

Survivors include her son, David Hunter and wife Gail of Washington; daughter-in-law, Kathryn V. Hunter of Washington; grandchildren, Mike Hunter (Debra), Dave Hunter, Dan Hunter, (Ashly), Lisa Newsome (Warren), John Hunter (Erin) and Andy Hunter; great- grandchildren, Brittany Allgood, (Tim), Bailey Rediger, Neal Hunter, Katelyn Hunter, Ryan Smith (James), Madeline Hill (Coulter), Jason Albritton, Ansley Nelson (Ryan), Hunter Newsome, Sarah Grace Hunter, and Tyler Hunter; great- great grandchildren, Hadley Allgood, Finley Allgood, James Smith, Lou Hill, and Barrett Nelson.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery, Washington. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and Deacons of Sandy Cross Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.  The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the graveside while practicing social distancing.
