Georgia Lee Garrett Fletcher, 95, entered into rest on September 3, 2025, in Toccoa, Georgia. She was born in Wilkes County on June 26, 1930 to the late George Garrett and Alice Edwards Garrett. Georgia grew up in Washington, Georgia and was a graduate of Washington High School and furthered her education at a business college, which led her to working for State Senator Blalock in Atlanta. It was in Atlanta where she met and married the love of her life, Thomas Lamar Fletcher. Shortly after marriage, she and Thomas moved back to Georgia's hometown where she made a career working as an office manager at Fernacres Farms. Her life was a testament to her loving nature and her unwavering faith. She was a devoted member of Smyrna Community Church, where she was actively involved in Sunday School and various church activities. Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life's challenges and joys. Georgia's life was marked by her passion for traveling, cooking, and reading, especially her Bible. Georgia's survivors include sons, Tom Fletcher and partner Ken, Jeff Fletcher and wife Lynn; daughter, Susan Nunn and husband Dean; brother, Marshall Garrett and wife Linda; sister, Mary Sheffield; grandchildren, Phillip Nunn and wife Nikki, Harley Nunn, and Hope Fletcher and partner Vanessa; great-grandchildren, Daishany Riddle and husband Jaime, and Ryleigh Nunn. She was an aunt to a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. Georgia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Lamar Fletcher Sr., her brother, Tommy Garrett, and her brother-in-law, Dr. Alton Sheffield. Georgia's final years were comforted by the exceptional care provided by her caretakers, Annie Neeley and Paul Cullars, as well as the staff at Southern Manor Senior Living and The Wilkinson Center in Toccoa.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 7, 2025 at 2 o'clock at Smyrna Community Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wilkes County Ramp Ministry c/o Pam Robinson, P.O. Box 132, Washington, Georgia, 30673.
