George "Sonny" Marshall, Jr.

George "Sonny" Marshall, 78, of Buffington Rd., Thomson, Georgia entered into eternal rest on February 25, 2022.

Sonny was born in Marietta, Georgia on April 21, 1943, to the late George Ernest Marshall, Sr. and Sarah Louise Pritchett Grishkat. He grew up in the Atlanta area, was a U. S. Marine during the Vietnam War and served in the Air National Guard.  Sonny worked with the Atlanta Police Department for 17 years, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant.  During his service with the Atlanta Police Department, he formed the Atlanta Mounted Patrol and received numerous commendations.  Sonny moved to Thomson, Georgia in 1984 and became a park ranger with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).  During his tenure with DNR, he served as the Park Superintendent for Stephen Foster State Park and Elijah Clark State Park.  Sonny also worked as a part-time deputy for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department.  He was Baptist by faith and a Charter Member of Raysville Baptist Church.  Sonny loved the Lord and his Church.  He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Vicky Smith; his brother, Alan Marshall and his granddaughter, Heather Marshall.  He was survived by his wife of 37 years, Davida Marshall; his sons, Richard Marshall (Laura) of Douglasville, Michael Marshall (John) of Carrollton, and Donny Marshall (Nikki) of Norwood; his daughter, Tracy Todd (Ray) of Thomson; his siblings Bobby, Billy and Robin (Kevin); his grandchild, Candace Leavens and several great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Raysville Baptist Church, 5264 Lincolnton Highway, Thomson, Georgia at 3:00 p.m.  with Rev.
