Earl Eugene “Gene” Davis, Jr., age 69, of Lincolnton, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Born on June 11, 1956, in Augusta, Georgia, Gene lived a life marked by hard work, steady kindness, and a genuine love for people, family, and the simple joys of everyday life.
Gene grew up in downtown Augusta, Georgia, and attended Curtis Baptist School in Augusta. As a young boy, he discovered the art of welding while working at his brother-in-law’s shop, Austin Ornamental & Iron. That early experience helped shape a lifetime of practical skill and dedication. After high school, he enjoyed working with his Uncle Vic Crenshaw at Vic’s Harley Davidson alongside his cousin Rodney, where he learned to work on motorcycles and developed a lifelong appreciation for the craft. He later served as a motorcycle mechanic for the Augusta Police Department, where his talents and reliability were valued by those around him.
Gene began a career with the Iron Workers Local 709, where he helped rebuild the Amoco Chemical Plant. His hard work and strong work ethic led to an opportunity to become a Chemical Operator with the plant, which later became Solvay Chemical. He devoted 33 years to that career before retiring in January 2023. Throughout his working life, Gene was known as someone who could be counted on, and he took pride in doing every job well. His commitment, skill, and perseverance earned the respect of coworkers and friends alike.
Outside of work, Gene enjoyed being involved in many clubs and activities over the years. He was a former member of Briar Creek Sportsman Club, Thomson Archery Club, CSRA Beagle Club, Rocky Branch Golf Course, and several bass clubs. In more recent years, he found great enjoyment in cattle farming and in raising chickens and goats. These pursuits brought him peace and satisfaction, and he appreciated the rhythm of country life and the rewards of caring for animals and land.
Those who knew Gene will remember him most for his kind heart. He was the nicest person and would always go out of his way to strike up a conversation with anyone he met. His warm smile, friendly nature, and willingness to connect with others made him a familiar and welcome presence wherever he went. Gene had a gift for making people feel comfortable, and his kindness left a lasting impression on family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances.
Gene is survived by his sons, Dustin Davis and his wife Chrissy, and Cody Davis and his fiancée Montana; his grandchildren, Easton Davis, Christian Davis, Bella Grace Davis, and Laykin May Davis; siblings, Mike Davis of N. Augusta, SC, Patricia Cave of Martinez and Betsy Reagan of Martinez, many nieces and nephews and his former wife of 23 years, Kathie Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Laverne Mills Davis. He also leaves behind many others who loved him and will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by loved ones who welcomed him home.
Gene will be remembered as a hardworking man, a devoted father and grandfather, and a person of uncommon kindness. His life reflected loyalty, humility, and quiet strength. Though he will be deeply missed, the example he set and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
