Gary Douglas Shafer Thomson, GA. - Mr. Gary Shafer, 66, of Rousseau Creek Rd., entered into rest June 27, 2012. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 2, 2012 at Word of Life Church in Appling, Georgia with Pastor Sonny Jones officiating. Mr. Shafer was born in Tampa, Florida to the late Allen and Viola Staude Shafer. He retired from the Logistics Department with Caterpillar after thirty years of service. Mr. Shafer lived in Peoria, Illinois for many years and moved to Thomson seven years ago. He loved his family and was a avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Edna Shafer; brother, Robert Shafer and wife, Trudy; sons, Kevin Strickland and wife, Linda, Curtis Strickland and wife, Kimberly; two grandchildren, Zackery and Nickolaus Strickland.
