Frank William "Bill" Cheesborough, II, 86, passed away on May 13, 2021.  He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Ann Cheesborough.  They shared 43 years of marriage.

Born in Augusta, Georgia, he was the son of Frank William Cheesborough and Cora Taylor Cheesborough.   His childhood was spent attending Richmond County public schools, taking family vacations to Edisto Island and learning mechanical applications at his father's south Augusta shop, Cheesborough's Automatic Transmissions.

Following high school graduation he attended the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina and The Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia where he earned his degree in Industrial Engineering in 1957.  He was a lifelong yellow jackets fan.  He went to work for Babcock & Wilcox (Thermal Ceramics) in 1958 and worked in Industrial Management until he retired in 1994.

He was a member of the National Guard for 23 years and retired as Master Sergeant.  Traveling with his wife in their motorhome brought him great joy.  Ever the engineer, he could fix anything and could water ski on a boat paddle.  In addition to his love for his wife and family, he was a faithful animal lover, enjoyed being outside and cultivating new growth from meager beginnings.  Many of his grandchildren recall his former basset hound, Floppy, who enjoyed his breakfast of grits on Saturday morning with Pops.  He loved living on Clark Hill Lake for over 40 years and was well liked by friends and neighbors, who could count on him for assistance whenever it needed. Always willing to take the time to teach younger generations, he was a kind patriarch who spent many days and evenings with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces who all adored him as "Pops" or "Uncle Bill".

He is survived by his brothers, Dick (Judy) Cheesborough and Lee Cheesborough; his children Doug Cheesborough, Preston (Tricia) Scoggins and Debbie Hemphill; his grandchildren Woody Hemphill, Preston Scoggins, Ryan Hemphill, Julie Lynn, Thomas (Dawn) Scoggins, Anna (Ross) Hanahan, Patrick Scoggins, Katherine Scoggins, Nick Hemphill, Justin, Jason and Joshua.  He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Ann Cheesborough and his son-in-law, Wilson Hemphill.  He also had 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Beggs Funeral Home in Thomson, Georgia with interment following at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  The visitation will be held from 11:00 am to the time of the service.

The family would like to give special thanks to Priscilla Davis of Davis Personal Care Home and Sandy, Cathy, Haley and Carolyn who cared for Pops wonderfully in his last year.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CSRA Humane Society, 425 Wood St., Augusta, Georgia.

Per CDC requirements, the family will be observing social distancing, and masks are requested and appreciated.  Due to the current national health concern, the family would appreciate phone calls, cards, texts, and e-mails.
