Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Bentley Wheeler, of Lincolnton, entered into rest on Sunday, October 7, 2012 in Appling, Columbia County, Georgia. She resided at Lake Crossing Nursing Home in Appling, Ga. Funeral services will be held at Greenwood Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 10th at 2 p.m. in Lincolnton, Georgia. Revs. Seaborn Dell and Paul Reviere officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Wheeler was a native of Lincoln County,born on April 26, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Bentley and Gladys Bennett Bentley of Lincolnton. As an infant, Mrs. Wheeler was a polio victim, but it never stopped her from a profession or from community involvement. She graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1939. She put herself through college by teaching at the Amity School House and was the last teacher there before the school closed. After graduating, from the University of Georgia, she was a dietician at University Hospital in Augusta. She was later a dietician at Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington, Georgia. She was married to John Galbraith Wheeler, Sr.and they lived in Trevose, PA, Lincolnton, Ga, and Wilkes County, Ga., before moving to Marietta, Georgia. In Marietta, she owned and operated the Children's Shop for over twenty years. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved back to Lincolnton where they resided for many years. Mrs. Wheeler was a charter member of the Cherokee Chapter of the DAR in Atlanta. She was also a member of the Sons and Daughters of Pilgrims; the Magna Charta Dames and Barons' the Colonial Dames XVII Century; and the Lincoln County Historical Society. She was a member of the Amity Community Club and one of the oldest members of Greenwood Baptist Church. Preceding her in death were her husband, John G. Wheeler, Sr., and her son, George Bennett Wheeler. She is survived by her older son, John G. Wheeler, Jr. of Lincolnton, his wife, Anne; two grandchildren, David Bentley Wheeler and his wife, Dr. Julia N. Winger Wheeler of Evans, Georgia, and Jennifer Wheeler Ross and her husband, Ryan Shane Ross, of Fayetteville, Georgia. Mrs Wheeler has two great grandchildren, Hailey and Adam Ross of Fayetteville.
