Mr. Eldon Lamar Brindley, 89, of Chamberlain Ferry Road, with family in attendance, peacefully chose to take the hand of the Lord and enter into His care on November 27, 2012 Lamar, or "Shorty" as he was known to family and friends, was the son of the late Ralph and Velma Brindley and was a native of Bristol, IN. He lived there for many years until moving his family to Florida. It was there he pursued a successful career as a commercial painter until his retirement in 1995. He and his much loved wife of 69 years, Charlotte Ann (Betty) Brindley, then moved to Lincolnton. Mr. Brindley was preceded in death by a daughter, Carlotta D. Brindley. He had the proverbial green thumb, was an avid gardener and grower of orchids, many other beautiful plants and vegetables which he freely shared with others for their enjoyment. Lamar's passion, other than assisting his loving family in any endeavor, was fishing. He spent many days sitting in the sun, by the family pond, showing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren the ins and outs of catching the "Big One". He just enjoyed being outdoors. He was not only a fisherman, but a hunter, a golfer, and enjoyed raking leaves or gathering pecans with the family in the fall. He really was fond of attending the grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's school events. For leisure, he liked watching football; he was a fan at the high school, college, or professional level; his favorite professional team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was a reversion to his Florida loyalties. Additionally, he was a talented wood worker and gave gifts of his skill to many in surrounding Lincolnton. Lamar is truly loved by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Ann Brindley; two daughters: Dixie I. Turnbull and former son-in-law, David Turnbull of Lincolnton; three sons: Eldon Roy Brindley and wife, Carol, of Hudson, FL, Gary Lee Brindley and wife, Deleta, of Brownwood, TX, and John Maxwell Brindley and wife, Joy, of Brownwood, TX; a brother, Maylon Brindley and wife, Flo, of Bristol, IN; two sisters: Phyllis Krogh of Elkhart, IN and Marilyn Sterly of Las Vegas, NV. He is also blessed with the love of his 14 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
