Eugene Reid

Mr. Eugene O. "Gene"  Reid, 81, of Wills Memorial Drive, entered into rest on December 28, 2013 at Wills Memorial Hospital. It was on the same day in 1956 that he married the former Billie Avrett who preceded him in death in March of 2003 .

Mr. Reid, son of the late Olin and Lucy Chastain Reid, had lived in Washington most of his life with the exception of a few years during his childhood that he lived in Fortsonia. He was retired from Edison Plastics, from the Washington Volunteer Fire Department after 33 years of service where he had served as assistant chief. Since retirement, he had become an avid woodworker and enjoyed making Christmas decorations and furniture.

In addition to his wife, his sister, Eunice R. Chambers, preceded him in death.

Son: Chris Reid and wife, Lisa of Lincolnton

Daughter: Debbie R. Mitchell and husband, Clyde of Social Circle

Grandchildren: Christopher Reid, Jennifer Reid, Jessica Reid, Brett Mitchell, Brandi Mathieu

Great- grandchildren: EmmaClaire Mitchell, OletaKate Mitchell, Case Mitchell, IslaMae Mitchell, AstinJune Mitchell, and Trent Mathieu

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 31st at 2 o'clock p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in Washington with Rev. W.C. Bentley officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm on Monday evening at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton.
