Emory Strother

Emory Eugene Strother, a lifelong resident of Wilkes County, Georgia, and a man admired for his hard work and kind nature, passed away on September 6, 2023. Born on November 11, 1938, Emory was a pillar of his community and a beloved family man who left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was born on November 11, 1938 and grew up in Washington, Georgia, where he spent his early years assisting his father in the sawmilling business. It was here that he developed a strong work ethic, learning the value of hard work and perseverance through long hours spent amidst nature's elements. This early experience sparked a lifelong love for the outdoors, particularly the woods and the scent of pine resin, which would later influence his career path.

Emory proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Berlin Crisis. Following his return from active duty in Maryland, he obtained certification in HVAC from North Georgia Tech. He went on to operate his own HVAC business for nearly a decade. Despite his success in the HVAC field, Emory felt a strong pull towards his roots and founded Strother Wood Products in 1978 which he operated until his retirement in 2002. Retirement did not slow Emory down; instead, he raised cattle and goats, gardened and worked with draft horses and mules. He even began making harnesses for draft use, showcasing his handy skills and love for nature. He also restored several vintage tractors. He was an active member of Smyrna Community Church. He is survived by his wife, Norwood Saxon Strother, and their three children: Barry Strother and wife Angie, Randy Strother and wife Betsy, and Susan Poss and husband Len, all of Washington. He was a proud grandfather to Gabriel, Mary Katherine, Emily, Emory, Eli, Ruth, Boyd, and Jake, and a great-grandfather to Luke. Emory was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Strother. Funeral services to honor his life will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11 am at Smyrna Community Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral in the church sanctuary.

Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton, is honored to serve the family of Mr. Emory Eugene Strother, a man whose life was marked by hard work, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
