McDuffie County
Emory Kent Richards, 93, Thomson, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on November 25, 2024.
Emory was born in Warrenton, Georgia on August 21, 1931, grew up in McDuffie County and has lived in McDuffie County for most of his life. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after working with the railroad for over 30 years. Emory served his Country in the U.S. Army and received the Combat Infantry Badge, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and the National Defense Service Medal. He played football for the Thomson Bulldogs, enjoyed horses and hunting and loved spending time with friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Jane Allgood Richards. His survivors include his sons, Tracy Richards (Debbie), Ray Wilson, Wayne Wilson (Ashley) and Mark Wilson; his daughter, April Woods; twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren and other extended family.
Visitation will be held at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with his funeral service to follow in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, being officiated by Pastor Tim Lewis. The interment will follow at Sweetwater Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service are Ricky Luke, Marvin Norman, Cason Brooks, Billy Anderson, Randy Pilgrim and Mike Arant.
