Rev. Ellis Avery Moore

Entered into rest on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, Rev. Ellis Avery Moore, 81, loving husband of 55 years to Mrs. Betty Carter Moore,

Born on March 24, 1943, in Cobbtown, GA, to Luther and Mattie Moore, Ellis was one of 16 children. He was saved in January 1973 and surrendered to full-time ministry in 1974 and graduating from Mississippi College in 1979 and then Mid-America Theological Seminary in 1982. Ellis pastored churches in Mississippi, Georgia, and Maryland for 40-plus years before retiring and serving as a chaplain for Regency Hospice in Augusta until 2019. Ellis was a bold witness for Christ, never missing an opportunity to share his faith with complete strangers. He was a hard worker, something he learned while growing up on a farm he tended with his family in Cobbtown.

Family members in addition to his wife include his daughters: Sandy, Cindy (Lowell), and Alisha (Hoke), his four sons Chris (Bobbie Jo), Avery, Andy (Charley), and Ashley (Carrie); 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for all contributions to go to Samaritans Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

The funeral service will be Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Warren Baptist Church with his sons Andy and Ashley Moore officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Chapel at the church.

Burial will be at Westover Memorial Park, where the family will have a private graveside service on a later date.
