Ellie Margaree Callaway Jones passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024, at the age of 94, in Evans, Georgia. Born on February 12, 1929, in Washington, Georgia, Ellie was one of thirteen children to the late Robert and Nellie Carlton Callaway. Her early years were spent on the family's dairy farm in Wilkes County, where she developed a lifelong love for the land and the simple joys of life. Ellie's resilience and strength of character were shaped by the challenges of growing up during the Great Depression and World War II. She carried with her an enduring sense of optimism and a deep-seated belief in the value of hard work. At the age of 18, Ellie moved to Lincoln County, where she would spend the remainder of her life. Her career in textiles spanned several companies, including Royal Manufacturing, Zeus Manufacturing, Milliken Mill, and Thomson Company. A member of Hephzibah Baptist Church, Ellie's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She found solace and strength in her church community, and her commitment to her faith was unwavering. Ellie's love for the outdoors was reflected in her passion for gardening and tending to her yard, where she found great pleasure in the beauty and tranquility of nature. She is survived by her daughters, Gail Jones O'Neal and her husband Perry of Lincolnton, and Sandra Jones Williford of Evans; her brother, Otis Callaway of Washington, and sisters, Ella Nell Mines of Union Point and Evelyn Bridges of Carlton; grandchildren, Mike O'Neal and his wife Beth, David Williford and his wife Crystal, and Ashley Fuller and her husband Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Austin Mobley, Tyler Mobley, Jonathan O'Neal, Lincoln O'Neal, Ivey O'Neal, Emory Callahan, and Ellie Callahan; and great-great-grandchild, Beckum Mobley. Ellie was preceded in death by her husband, Otto, her granddaughter, Penny O'Neal, her son-in-law, Timothy Williford, and nine of her siblings. The family will receive friends on Friday at 11 am at Hephzibah Baptist Church, Lincolnton, Georgia, where Ellie was a devoted member. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon in the church sanctuary. Following the service, Ellie will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton, is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Ellie Callaway Jones. Ellie's life was a testament to the enduring power of faith, family, and hard work.
