Mrs. Elizabeth Walden Richards, 78, Thomson, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on October 19, 2021.

Elizabeth was born in Warrenton, Georgia on April 7, 1943, grew up in McDuffie County, Georgia and graduated from Thomson High School.  She worked at McDuffie County Hospital and various other administrative positions earlier in her career.  In 1981, she opened, owned and operated Richards Flowers and Gifts until her retirement.  She was a devoted Christian and member of Sweetwater Baptist Church from childhood where she taught Sunday School and GAs for years.  Approximately 20 years ago, she was instrumental in reopening Union Baptist Church where she was a very active and faithful member, a song leader, missions' leader and worked with Vacation Bible School.  Elizabeth never met a stranger, was known for her kind way of sharing her faith, and she especially loved spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Richards preceded in death by her parents Willie Walden and Marie Story Walden; her husband of 57 years, Russell Richards; and her grandson, Drake Widener.  Her survivors include son, Mark Richards (Teresa) of Thomson; her daughters, Bonnie Widener (Skipper) of Thomson and Jennifer Rodeheaver (Chad); her special niece, Tammy Reese; her grandchildren, Harris Richards (Crystal), Brenton Widener (Courtney), Will Richards (Jeri Lyn), Colson Avant, Cayden Avant, Elise Rodeheaver; and her great grandchildren, Noah Widener, Titus Widener, Millie Widener, Russell Richards and Camden Elizabeth Richards and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Beggs Funeral Home on Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and the funeral service will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lee Walton, officiating, and the interment will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers for the service are Will Richards, Colson Avant, Cayden Avant, Rob Reese, Evan Hunt and Brandon Gay. The Richards' family would like to express their sincerest thank you to the staff at Madison Heights Assisted Living for all the kindness and care extended to Mrs. Richards.

Memorial donations may be made to the Drake Widener Scholarship Fund, 488 Luke Road, Thomson, GA  30824.

The family will be observing social distancing, and masks are requested and appreciated.  Due to the current national health concern, the family would appreciate phone calls, cards, texts, and e-mails.
