Eleanor Snow Martin

Eleanor Snow Martin, age 98, of Cartersville, passed away on January 1, 2020.

Eleanor was born to Fayette C. Snow and Jewell Langley Snow on October 4, 1921, near the community of Panthersville in DeKalb County, Georgia.  She married Richard H. Martin shortly after World War II, and they lived in Atlanta until 1972, when they moved to Cadley.  Richard and Eleanor then moved to Cartersville in 2001.   Eleanor was an elementary school teacher for many years in the Peach, Warren, DeKalb, and McDuffie County school systems.  After retirement, she enjoyed gardening, reading, and working her daily crossword puzzle.

She was predeceased in death by her parents; an infant son; her husband, Richard; sisters Louise Greer, Marie Snow, Margaret Wade, Sarah O'Neal, and Fanny Ragan.

She is survived by her daughters Teresa M. Gregory (John) of Waleska and Susan M. McLeod (Brian) of Cartersville; grandchildren Kevin M. Black (Cathy) of Acworth; Dennis N. Black (Theresa) of Cartersville; Jeffrey L. Gregory (Kristine) of Mountain House, California; Alyson S. Meltz (Ross) of Seattle, Washington; J. Evan McLeod of Canton; Hannah E. Lipscomb of Marietta; and Ross H. McLeod of Marietta; her sister, Ina S. Smith of Rock Hill, South Carolina, as well as fourteen great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her cat, Barney.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be made in Mrs. Martin's memory to the Sam Jones UMC Building Fund, 100 W. Church Street, Cartersville, Georgia  30120, or to the New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Tracy Arrington 10046 Hwy 80 North, Norwood, GA 30821.

Her funeral service will be conducted on Monday, January 6, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia, with the Rev. Gary McWhorter officiating.
