Mr. Edward S. Turner, Sr., 89, of Florence St., Lincolnton, Ga. entered into rest on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Augusta University Medical Center.
Mr. Turner, son of the late James L. and Hazel Sisson Turner was born in Greene County on September 25, 1932. When he first began school in Tignall, he and his parents lived in the Floral Hill Community of Wilkes County. Later in his childhood, they moved to Lincolnton where he graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1950.
On June 23, 1952, he married Virginia Martin and in 1956, they established the Lincolnton Dry Cleaners. Together, they operated the dry cleaners for 47 years. A typical day at the cleaners began at 6am and ended at 6pm six days a week.
In addition to his dedication to his family and his business, Mr. Ed was always very active in the community and his church including serving as Farmers State Bank Board Director for 55 years, Red Devil Football Announcer for many years, member and Sunday School Teacher at Lincolnton United Methodist Church and later a member of First Assembly of God, founding member of Lincoln County Industrial Development Board and Lincolnton Fire Department Volunteer.
He served as a Lincoln County Commissioner for 12 years during which time he worked diligently to improve industry in Lincoln County which resulted in Mayfair Mills choosing Lincolnton as home for one of their production facilities and formed the county ambulance service which later became Lincoln County Emergency Services.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Virginia M. Turner; sons, Eddy Turner and wife Lilly, Bruce Turner and wife Donna; grandchildren, Anna Turner Williams and husband Tripp, Tyson Turner and wife Anitra, Kristen Turner Jones, Jaime Turner Bass and husband Blake, and nine great- grandchildren.
The family appreciates the love and support of all of their friends during this time. However, due to Mrs. Virginia's age and health, services will be private and there will be no public visitation. Serving as pallbearers are Butch Evans, Brian Barmore, Boyd Gwinn, Tyson Turner, Blake Bass, James Petit, Robert Martin, Jr., Tripp Williams and Kevin Beggs.
