Edward "Eddie" Anton Gerkitz

Thomson, GA – Mr. Eddie Gerkitz, 42, entered into rest March 11, 2019.

Mr. Gerkitz was born in Joliet, Illinois, the son of the late Edward Ronald Gerkitz and the late Dena Lamble Gerkitz. He lived most of his life in McDuffie County, GA, was a 1994 graduate of Thomson High School, and had an Associate degree in Criminal Justice from Augusta Technical College. Mr. Gerkitz worked as a salesman for Advance Auto and had previously worked as a firefighter with the City of Thomson and McDuffie Fire & Rescue. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, video games, and was a Chicago Cubs fan. Mr. Gerkitz was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Jessica Bonner Gerkitz; sons, Kyle Whitmire (Amy), Damian Gerkitz, R.C. Ray, Johnathon Ray, and Milo Gerkitz; brothers, Jamie Schaefer, Kevin Schaefer, Greg Schaefer, and Kelly Schaefer; sister, Theresa M. Gerkitz; and 2 grandchildren, Kailynn Whitmire and Kennidy Whitmire.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2019 at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Father Stephen Lyness as Celebrant.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Rd., Thomson, Georgia is honored to serve the family of Mr. Eddie Gerkitz.
