Mr. Dwain Irvin Moss, Sr. passed into eternity on Monday, June 12, 2023, at his
residence. He was born on April 10, 1949, to the late Guy Irvin Moss and Sara Mann
Moss. He lived his entire life in Lincolnton surrounded by family and friends, immersed
in the history of the town and county he loved.
Dwain graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1967. He then went on to earn his
Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from Georgia College. While attending
Georgia College, he was the first male President of the College Government
Association. In August of 1989, Dwain completed his Specialist of Education degree at
the University of Georgia.
Dwain accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in April 1959, and remained a
faithful member of Lincolnton Baptist Church until his death, serving as Trustee,
Deacon, Sunday School Director, and a member of many committees.
Dwain served his hometown of Lincolnton for 12 years as a City Councilman. He was
an active member of the Little River Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Dwain was very passionate about the history of Lincoln County. One of his greatest
accomplishments of historical significance was the purchase and preservation of the
Moss Ice House which was built in 1932 by his grandfather, Guy Moss. He enjoyed sharing his
vast knowledge and remarkable recollection of times past with others, even publishing
several articles in The Lincoln Journal. Everyone who knew him also knew how much
he loved being outside and working in his yard in which he took immense pride.
Dwain is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Patricia Krumenauer Moss, his daughter
Sara Beth Moss, and son Dwain Irvin Moss, Jr. Additional survivors include his three
sisters Irvine Justice, Judy Ely, and Christie Berry and her husband Rev. Donald Berry;
and one sister-in-law Janice Aaron and her husband Harold Aaron; and many beloved
nieces and nephews.
