Thomson, GA- Dorothy "Dot" M. (Tankersley) Whitener,75, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 16, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Jack Wesley Whitener; loving mother of Mary Ann (David) Land, Julie (Tim) O'Rourke, Wesley Whitener, and Daniel (Kelly) Whitener; proud grandmother of Ashley, Riley , Cole, Carson, Levi, and Hudson; sister of Mary Dunaway , Billy (Wanda) Tankersley, Buddy Tankersley, and Frank Tankersley. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.H. and Effie Clara Tankersley. Dot was a well-known business woman in the community for over 40 years, having owned/operated several video rental stores in the 80's and 90's and owner of Whitener Accounting, which she started in 1970. She enjoyed working with families in the community during tax time every year, spending time with her kids and grandkids, her annual family trip to Myrtle Beach each summer, spending time at the lake, visiting the mountains in the fall, and planting a flower garden in her yard every spring.

Friends and family will be received from 6 p.m until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014 in the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Williford officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery.
