Dorothy Ann Templeton McCombs Columbro, affectionately known as Dot to her dear friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024. Born on December 9, 1936, in Augusta, Georgia, Dot's radiant spirit and generous heart touched the lives of all who knew her during her 87 years of life. Dot's professional life was marked by her nurturing nature and a deep-rooted desire to help others. Early in her career, she worked at Martinez Pharmacy, where her warm smile and caring demeanor were a comfort to all who entered. She later served as a medical assistant with Scoggins, Goldberg, and Oldham, then for Dr. Harry Oldham for about ten years before working for Dr. Gary Williamson where her skills and compassion were invaluable to both her colleagues and patients. Dot and her husband Ron found great fulfillment as house parents for Child Enrichment in Augusta, where they made a significant impact on the lives of many children. Before retiring, Dot also contributed her time and talents to the Shepherd Community Blood Center. Dot's love for life was evident in her many hobbies and volunteer activities. She cherished Christmas and took joy in baking, decorating wedding cakes, and sharing her recipes with others. Her hands were rarely still, as she was often found knitting, crocheting, or sewing. In her younger years she could make the devil cringe with her talent for playing hymnals on the piano. As a girl scout leader, she inspired young girls to grow with courage, confidence, and character. Dot also gave her time to Lincoln County Family Connection, Secret Santa, and the Lincoln County Food Bank, and she found particular joy in sewing pillows for breast cancer patients. Dot had been a member of several churches throughout her life, including Pine Grove Methodist Church in Lincolnton, St. Albans Episcopal and Church of the Atonement in Augusta, and later, she attended First Assembly of God in Lincolnton. Dot's legacy is carried on by her loving family, including her four children, Terrie Levy, Mike McCombs (Lizzy), Chuck McCombs, and Karen McCombs; seven grandchildren: Charlie Levy, Austin McCombs, Jordan McCombs, Jason McCombs, Baylen McCombs, Camden McCombs, and Brad Hall; great- grandchild, Michael McCombs; sister, Betty Lee Dixon; stepdaughter, Nory Columbro King (David), four step-grandchildren, Megan King Marsingill, Evan King, Nolan King, and Logan King, and four step-great-grandchildren. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Thelma Templeton, her husband SFC Ronald F. Columbro, and a granddaughter, Jennifer McCombs. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 7pm at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, 124 Davis Rd., Martinez with visitation beginning at 5:30 pm. The family is asking in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Lincoln County Food Bank P O Box 473 Lincolnton, GA 30817.
