Dorothy Petersen Downs

Mrs. Dorothy Petersen Downs, 90, of Old Milledgeville Rd. entered into rest October 16, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Sweetwater Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Garvin officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Mitchell, GA.

Mrs. Downs was born in Ida Grove, Iowa and was the daughter of the late Henry Petersen and the late Elsie Dorbrenck Petersen. She was retired from the Department of Health and Human Services with many years of service. Mrs. Downs was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church, Thomson.

Survivors include her sons, Richard H. Downs of Thomson, GA, Robert A. Downs and wife, Kay of Hiawassee, GA, Rodney L. Downs and wife, Susan of San Antonio, TX; daughters, Kathryn D. Bundy of Columbus and Karolyn F. Downs of Gracewood, GA; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Downs was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Downs and son in law, Harvey Bundy.

It was Mrs. Downs request that memorial contributions be made to Boys Town, P. O. Box 6000, Boystown, NE 68010-9988 or to the Sweetwater Baptist Church Building Fund 1606 Wrens Hwy., Thomson, GA 30824.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
