Donald Troy Potts, known mostly as Don, entered into eternal rest on August 28, 2024.

Don was born in Lamar County, Georgia, on January 2, 1941. He was the son of the late Troy and Dollie Evans Potts of Barnesville, Georgia. Don graduated from high school and attended Gordon College in his hometown. He was very proud to have served in the United States National Guard and had a passion for all things nature including hunting, fishing and gardening.

Upon completion of his services, Don moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked in the banking business. Because of his outgoing personality and love for meeting new people, he changed his career pathway to food sales working for large companies such as Carnation, Schneider Bros., and eventually retiring from HB Hunter Co. in Norfolk, Virginia. He also enjoyed his time serving in the Masons and Shriners.

Married to JoAnn Powell Potts for 58 years, they share a daughter Donna Bennett (Jim) of Thomson, GA. Donna was the highlight of his life serving as a coach for her little league teams, attending almost all events she was involved with during her school years and career. He was blessed with a granddaughter Jessica Story (Josh) of Fort Mill, S.C., when Donna married Jim. The biggest and brightest joys of his entire life were his grandsons Zach and Jake. Being their proud Poppy and participating in every part of their lives was a true priority for him. He absolutely cherished their standing Saturday morning breakfast dates and bantering with them about their love for the Georgia Bulldogs and his love for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Don also leaves behind his beloved dog Lucy and grand dog Hazel.

Among other survivors are his brother Ron Potts (Sherry), sister-in-law Helen Powell, a host of nieces and nephews, and his life-long best friend Mickey Bush (Nancy).

His visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Rd., Thomson, GA. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, Thomson, Georgia.
