Dolores (Kreidler) Mcavoy

Mrs. Dolores Kreidler McAvoy

of Sandy Cross Road, Washington, Georgia entered into rest at her home on Saturday, July 2, 2022. She was 89 years young.

Dolores was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on November 16, 1932. She was the daughter to Frank & Pearl Kreidler. Her parents divorced and Dolores moved around with her mom and sister Peggy, during the depression years. Her mom never lacked for work. They ended up in Norfolk, Virginia where her mom worked as a civil servant at the Naval yard, and Dolores was a student at Granby High School where, with her amazing natural art ability,  earned an art scholarship to the 'High' School of Art in Atlanta, Ga.  She built friendships, did some modeling for Macy's,then met Holice McAvoy (among other suiters), fell in love, got married, left college and Atlanta to move to Washington, Georgia, the native home of Holice. Children soon followed, Monty, then Marcus, then Michael.

She then spent most of her life raising 3 boys, worked at the local sewing factory to help support the family, cooked all the meals (until Swanson), and then staying up late into the night doing local and mail order portraits – then, back to work the next day. Later in life, she taught art to at least 3 generations of students in Wilkes County. Some at the Academy and after that in her downtown loft art studio.

She traveled across America with her husband annually on the 4th of July and after his passing she took several trips to Europe.

Dolores was a Southern Lady (never heard her utter a curse word) and a remarkable cook, taught by the best (her mother-in-law & other relatives), and in the later years served weekly meals that put weight on just by looking at it.  She had a great sense of humor and loved to surprise you with a "boo" from behind the door when we were kids.

Dolores died at home peacefully, her final July 4th trip, surrounded by a lifetime of her amazing art works and 'stuff' (talk about that later).

She was just where she wanted to be due to the amazing care she received from her live-in nephew Richard, Janice & Patricia. A special thanks and gratitude to everyone who cared for mom in her last years.

Her parents: Frank & Pearl preceded her in death as well as her husband Holice in 1997 and her oldest son, Monty, in 1985.

She is survived by her sister Peggy Dennis of Fargo, ND;  her son Marcus McAvoy and his wife Janice of Washington, Ga.; son, Michael McAvoy of Athens, GA.; grandchild, Carmen McAvoy of Thomson, Ga.,Step grandchildren, Nichole Gautreaux, Rachel Orlovsky & Dean Mikolyski,: step great grandchildren, Hank Adam Gautreaux, Lydia, Aaron, Elijah, Ethan, Ember Mikolyski and Miles Orlovsky,

AND survived by a lot of "stuff" that we have no idea what to do with. So, if you are looking for "stuff", please wait the appropriate amount of time to contact us. Tomorrow will be ok.
