Derek Paul Jones, known affectionately as Derek to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, at his home at Fishing Creek in Tignall, Georgia. Born on August 15, 1956, in Asheville, North Carolina, Derek's life was one marked by dedication, humor, and a love for the great outdoors. Derek's early years were spent in Canton, North Carolina and Augusta, Georgia where he graduated from Butler High School in 1976. His passion for craftsmanship led him to pursue a career in welding, and he honed his skills at Augusta Tech, becoming a respected welding expert. Derek's professional journey included significant tenures at Two State Construction and Occidental Chemical Company, where his expertise and work ethic were greatly valued. Beyond his professional life, Derek was a man of many interests. He was an avid gunsmith, a hobby that showcased his precision and patience. This heritage instilled in him a sense of adventure and a deep appreciation for his family's history. He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Etterlee Jones, and their son, Joshua Paul Jones, who both shared in his zest for life and his infectious humor.
