David Alexander Mcavoy

David Alexander McAvoy, devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother of Washington, Georgia passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, October 10, 2025. He was 64 years old.

Born on September 9, 1961, to the late Marvin "Hoppy" McAvoy and Oleta Echols McAvoy, David's life was a testament to the value of hard work and dedication to one's roots.

Raised on the family's dairy farm, Mar-Leta Farms, David began contributing to the family business at a young age. His commitment to the farm was unwavering, and his hands-on approach to life was a cornerstone of the farm's growth and success. David's work ethic was unparalleled, and his common-sense approach to business was a driving force in transforming their family.

David was a man whose life was not defined by academic accolades but by the wisdom gained through experience and a practical, self-taught understanding of the agricultural industry. His contributions to the family farm spanned nearly 50 years, a legacy of perseverance and passion that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Despite the demands of farm life, David found peace in the simplicity of nature. He was an avid fisherman, cherishing his weekly pond fishing with his friends, a tradition he maintained for over three decades. His love for the outdoors extended to hog hunting and coon hunting, activities that provided a balance to the rigors of farm work.

David's cabin, nestled above a serene creek bottom, was his haven—a place where he found peace and tranquility away from the pressures of his daily responsibilities. It is this cherished spot that he chose as his final resting place, a fitting tribute to a life so deeply connected to the land.

He is survived by his wife Beth Dunagan McAvoy, daughter, Morgan M. Lawson and husband Tim of Tignall; son, Charlie McAvoy and wife Camille of Washington; step-son, Conrad Richards and wife Alyson of Greensboro; brother, Roger McAvoy and wife Jennifer of Washington; sister, Susan Swantner and husband Michael of Corpus Christi, TX.; grandchildren, John David Lawson, Jacob Lawson, Lane McAvoy, Hayes McAvoy, Nora Belle Richards, James Richards, Will Lawson and wife Harley and Clay Lawson and wife Meredith and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bruce.

As we bid farewell to David Alexander McAvoy, lets be reminded that his memory will continue to inspire all who walk the fields of Mar-Leta Farms and those who remember the man with the humble heart and hands that nurtured the earth. David's life story is one of true dedication to his family, hard work and his memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and the community that he loved so dearly.

A visitation will be held at his residence at 1188 Happy Hollow Rd., Washington on Monday, October 13, 2025  at 11a.m. followed by a graveside service at his cabin nearby at 12 o'clock noon.
