David George Howard

David George Howard, a man of remarkable intellect and talent passed away on August 13, 2024, in Greenwood, South Carolina. Born on August 28, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, David was a beacon of strength and love for his family, friends, and everyone who had the pleasure of crossing his path. David's formative years in Detroit saw him flourish as an exceptional baseball pitcher, catching the eye of the Detroit Tigers. However, heeding his father's advice, he turned his focus to a more stable career in tool and die. His commitment to his vocation was evident in his certification as an Industrial Tool and Die Journeyman and earning an associate's degree. While living in Ann Arbor, Michigan, David, alongside his beloved wife, Suzanne, nurtured a warm and loving home where they raised their children. David's professional journey was marked by a longstanding tenure with General Electric, where he started in Tool and Die and ascended to an executive role in Sales and Marketing. His leadership and vision were further recognized when he became vice president of Walter Tool Grinding and later president of Phillips Machinery Corporation. An accomplished career man, David's work had him travel extensively across the United States and Europe, leaving a lasting impact on the industry and those he mentored along the way. Beyond his career achievements, David was an avid pianist. His impromptu performances, whether in restaurants or at public pianos, brought joy to many. An audience was never required for David to share his love for music, but when a crowd gathered, they were invariably charmed by his talent and passion.  He was also a man of great integrity who brought humor and fun to everyone he touched in his life. Being a natural storyteller and conversationalist, people of all ages always loved to spend time with him.

David's personal life was as full and vibrant as his professional one. He was a devoted husband to Suzanne and a loving father to his children, Steven Howard of Canton, Michigan; Lorrie H. Canady of Long Grove, Illinois, Susan Howard of Greenville, South Carolina and seven grandchildren. Though he grew up Baptist, David's strong faith evolved into a non-denominational appreciation for God's word and Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. He lived by example, demonstrating integrity, compassion, and a deep-seated intelligence that informed his every interaction.

David's journey on earth may have concluded, but the melodies he played and the lives he touched resonate with a rhythm that will never cease. In every note of music, in every successful venture he guided, and in the hearts of his family, David's legacy endures. May we all aspire to live with the grace and kindness that David George Howard exemplified throughout his remarkable life.

A memorial service will be held later.
