Colonel William H. Collins, U.S. Army Retired, 79 of Thomson Hwy., Lincolnton entered into rest on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 2pm at First Assembly of God. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Lincolnton City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1pm until the hour of the service at the church.
Col. Collins, son of the late William H. and Madelyn Hickmon Collins, was born on July 4, 1942 in Upson County where he grew up and graduated from Robert E. Lee Institute in 1960. Afterwards, he attended the University of Georgia where he received a BBA in 1964.
Following college, he enlisted in the US Army and served during the Vietnam War. After serving his enlistment, he returned to Thomaston, where he worked at his family's grocery business, Collins Grocery for couple of years, then assumed the position of purchasing agent at Thomaston Mills all the while serving in the US Army Reserves. He made a decision to return to active duty in the military and during that time was appointed to the position of Colonel. He finished War College in Carlisle, PA. shortly before his retirement from serving his country for almost 30 years.
In addition, he worked as Senior Project Director for AARP for 11 years, served on the Lincoln County Board of Equalization and was a member of First Assembly of God where he had served as Deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Goldman Collins; daughter, Laurie Larson and husband Eric; daughter-in-law, Angela Collins; grandchildren, Christopher Collins, Brandon Collins, Alia Collins, SFC Dylan Collins, John Michael Larson and Hunter Larson. He was preceded in death by his sons, William Carl Collins and Christopher Scott Collins.
