Christopher Barry Hudler, known affectionately as Chris to his friends and family, died on July 17, 2024, at the age of 63 in Lincolnton, Georgia.
Born to the late Barry Hudler and Dot Scott, Chris grew up in the picturesque town of Jefferson, nestled in the mountains of Western North Carolina, and carried with him a deep appreciation for the outdoors throughout his life. Since 1980, he had made his home in the Lincolnton area. Chris's passion for NASCAR was legendary, and he would often be found cheering on his favorite drivers, Darrell Waltrip and Kevin Harvick, at races in Darlington, Wilkesboro, Martinsville, Rockingham, Atlanta, and Charlotte. Chris spent countless hours on Clarks Hill Lake fishing for crappie, striper and jug fishing for catfish. Chris's love for the Georgia Bulldogs was as steadfast as his love for fishing he never missed watching a game on television. Family was the cornerstone of Chris's life. He leaves beloved wife, Carla White Hudler, who was his partner in every adventure. Together they created a lifetime of memories, especially during the days when they camped at local campgrounds on Clarks Hill Lake with their children. His daughter, Kristen Hudler Cartledge, and her husband Grant, stepson Ricky Nelson, and grandchildren Hudler Cartledge, Fulton Cartledge, Johnathan Nelson, and Mikaila Fendley, will cherish the legacy of love and laughter he instilled in them. Chris was also a proud great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren; sister, Susan Heitmann, and her husband Chris, step-father Ben Scott, step-mother Shirley Hudler, brother Joe Scott and wife Joanne, and step-sisters Teresa Steyer and husband Cary, and Ginny Crook and her husband Donny.
Chris was a machinist for H&H Industrial Maintenance until his health led him to retire. Chris was also a tinkerer at heart, with a special love for muscle cars. A self-proclaimed "General Motors man," especially when it came to Chevy, he could often be found in his garage, working on his old Camaro with a smile on his face. Handy and adventurous, Chris approached life with a can-do spirit that inspired everyone around him. He was a man who could fix anything with his hands and was always ready for the next adventure, whether it was a spontaneous road trip to a NASCAR race, camping or a new project. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 10:30 am until 11:30 am at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton
