Mr. Charlie Thomas Edmunds, 90 of Greenfield Rd, McCormick, South Carolina entered into rest on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at his residence.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 2pm at Overbrook Cemetery, McCormick with Rev. Michael Allen officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service near the graveside.

Mr. Edmunds, the youngest of ten children born to the late Clyde and Ida Mae Bowick Edmunds was born on February 18, 1931 in McCormick County. When Mr. Charlie was young, he operated a Gulf filling station in McCormick and later went to work with the South Carolina Forestry Commission as a District Ranger. During his career, he operated many fire towers in the district, fought dwelling and brush fires  and often appeared in local parades as Smokey the Bear. He retired after 28 years of service and became a full time cattle farmer. In addition, he served as chief of Sandy Branch Fire Dept and volunteered for McCormick County Fire Dept for over 40 years. He had a civic minded spirit and was always willing to serve on any board that needed assistance. To mention a few, they include Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Clemson Extension Service Board, McCormick Cattleman's Association, Mine F&AM Lodge #117 and was the oldest living charter member of the Plum Branch Saddle Club where he had served as President in years past. Also, he was a member of McCormick First Baptist Church where he attended faithfully until his health failed.

Mr. Charlie loved his wife and family. They shared many memories together camping and enjoying the lake.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Holliday Edmunds; daughters, Joan Anderson Cunningham, Peggy E. White; and grandchildren, Megan Anderson and Dedy White Miller.

He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Teresa E. Ashmore and husband Robert of Lincolnton and Deborah E. Banks and husband Ricky of McCormick; son-in-law, Jerry White of Plum Branch; grandchildren, Tommy Coleman, Leebo Banks, Paula Hegler, Melissa Gable, Jeremy Trammell, Anna Cunningham, Martha Jo Austin, Charley Ann Ashley, and Jennifer Banks; 16 great- grandchildren; 2 great- great grandchildren.
