Cecil D. "Stick" Smith Warrenton, GA - Mr. Cecil D. "Stick" Smith, of Thomson Hwy. entered into rest on September 17, 2012. He was born on October 23, 1923 to Eva and David Smith. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Mill Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Clifton Drawdy officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Rushing, Jon Oates, Marty Andrews, Milton Kendrick, Tim Smith and Zach Smith. Cecil was a resident of Warren County and a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, Mitchell, GA. He proudly served in World War II as a technician fourth grade in the 1897 Engineer Battalion. He served as a combination welder in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines, working with Navy Seabees constructing air strips. For his outstanding service, he was awarded the American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 3 bronze stars, Philippines Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star, WWII Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He served in Philippines during the Battle of Leyte and was in Japan at the time of surrender. After being discharged from the service, Cecil owned and operated a trucking company for 65+ years. Survivors include his son, Sonny Smith (Kathy) of Warrenton; daughters, Starr Crawford of Grovetown, GA and Jeannie Rushing (Derrell) of Warrenton; sisters, Barbara Cornelison and Helen Braun of Lilburn, GA and Faye Marshall of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Pam Howard, Thomson, GA, Marilyn Allen, Augusta, GA, Zach Smith, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, and Chris Rushing, Dearing, GA; several great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by wife and mother of his children, Marian J. Smith, second wife, Doris Elizabeth Smith, sister, Ruby Linde, brothers, John T. Smith, James L. Smith, and twin siblings Allen and Alice Smith. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the funeral home.
