CECIL LEON KIGHT OBITUARY

Mr. Cecil Leon Kight, age 92, formerly of Appling, Georgia and Jackson, South Carolina entered into rest December 7, 2022.  Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022, with the memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m., in the Family Life Center of Sharon Baptist Church, 6262 Cobbham Road, Appling, GA 30802.  Interment then will follow at the church cemetery with Rev. Andy Collins officiating.  Mr. Kight was born June 28, 1930 to the late Marcus Lee Kight and the late Sara Lou (Avant) Kight of Uvalda, GA.  Prior to moving to Hall County, GA, he had lived in the Winfield Hills Community of Appling for 33 years after living in Jackson, SC some 32 years.  Mr. Kight retired as a Reactor Shift Supervisor after 33 1/3 years at the Savannah River Site, Aiken, SC.  He proudly served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was discharged January 31, 1953 with the rank of Sergeant. As a member of Sharon Baptist Church since 1985, he served tirelessly as Chairman of The Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery Committee, taught Senior Adult Sunday School, and sang in the church choir.  He also helped establish and build the Shepherds Baptist Church of Appling.

Mr. Kight was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Polly (Horton) Kight, formerly of Scott, GA.  Survivors include sons, Marcus Leon Kight and wife, Linda of Flowery Branch, GA; James Cecil Kight and wife, Cyndi of Lakeland, FL; and Bruce Edwin Kight of South Carolina; sister, Julia Dees of Vidalia, GA; sister-in-law, Geraldine Kight of Gray, GA; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  The family respectfully requests all attendees wear masks at the indoors visitation.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery Committee, 6262 Cobbham Road, Appling, GA 30802, or ALS Therapy Development Institute, 480 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
