Carl James Turnbull

Carl James Turnbull, 70, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, brother, passed away peacefully at his home in Lincolnton, Georgia on March 6, 2025, after a long battle with cancer with his devoted wife Jeanie by his side caring for him.

Carl was born to the late Mary Kathleen Burck Turnbull and Jackie William Turnbull, on February 2, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Carl was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army for 3 years as a military policeman where he excelled. After he left the military, he graduated with a BA in Business Administration with a minor in criminal justice and served as a California Deputy Sheriff until a tragic incident in his patrol vehicle left him with paralysis on his left side. Never one to be kept down, he moved to Lincolnton to be nearer family members in 1993 and start a new chapter of his life.

Even though somewhat limited by his previous injury, Carl loved assisting where he could help family members build things and was always generous with those who needed his help to get ahead. Although not the easiest to get along with due to his strong opinions and lack of tact, he was a very generous person who at times surprised everyone by his selfless acts.

Carl is survived by his wife Jeanie Ganzan Turnbull, daughter, Leslie Marie Turnbull, son, Jack Vincent Turnbull and daughter, Jennifer Lee Dihn from his first marriage,  brother, David William Turnbull (life partner Julie Goldman Binner), sister, Grace Ann Keim, sister In-law, Dixie I Turnbull, and too many nieces, nephews and others to mention. He will be missed. His ashes ultimately will be interred at the family cemetery in Lincolnton Georgia.

Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton, is honored to serve the family of Mr. Carl James Turnbull.
