Calbert Leonard Schlein, 68, Appling, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on November 10, 2022.
Calbert was born in Augusta, Georgia on Easter Sunday, April 18, 1954, grew up in Augusta, Georgia, and moved to the Appling area in 1985. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Augusta College and taught high school history at Aquinas and in Richmond County. Calbert also worked in store management positions, mostly in the Thomson area. He was a Methodist by faith, a Sunday School teacher and an active leader in the Church for many years. Calbert enjoyed fishing, gardening, collecting coins, making jewelry and drinking coffee. He especially loved people and being with his family, friends and neighbors. Calbert was generous, kind and funny.
Calbert was preceded in death by his parents, Herman W. Schlein and Ruth Clark Schlein; his brother, Lester H. Schlein; and his sister, Connie S. Saxon. Survivors include his beloved wife of 45 years, Alma Kay Kirkland Schlein; his daughters, Angela Schlein (Will and Raighney Padilla), Carole Elaine Schlein and Callie Schlein Tucciarone (Matthew); his sister-in-law, Diane Schlein; his brother-in-law, Sam Saxon; his sister-in-law and caregiver, Agnes (Abby) Kirkland; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 14, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 5970 Cobbham Road, Appling, Georgia with Pastors Shirley Suarez and Kim Webb officiating and interment following in the Church Cemetery.
