Retired McDuffie County Board of Education Thomson, Ga. - Mr. Lawrence Bruce Blasingame, 81 of Dogwood Drive entered into rest April 13, 2010 at Doctors Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Lora Lancaster Blasingame for 57 years. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Today, April 16, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, Thomson with Revs. John Barnes and Charles Broome officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be: George Lokey, Bob Wilson, Jr., Teddy Reese, Mike Perry, Alex Ferguson, Jr., Charles Johnson, Paul Leroy and Jim Alfriend. Mr. Blasingame was a native of Oconee County, Georgia but lived in Thomson, Georgia since 1953. He was the son of the late Lovett Marcus Blasingame and the late Cora Dial Blasingame. Mr. Blasingame served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He received a B.S. degree from Piedmont College and a M.ED from Georgia Southern University. Mr. Blasingame retired from the McDuffie County Board of Education where he made a career as former teacher, coach and former principal of Laura Jones Elementary, Pine Street Elementary and Thomson High School. He served as JTPA program director and was former Chairman of the Board of Elections. Mr. Blasingame was a past member and President of the Exchange Club, past member of the Thomson Rotary Club, member of the Georgia Retired Educators, past President of the Retired Teachers Association and was instrumental in starting Little League Baseball for McDuffie County. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Thomson and a member of the J.O.Y. Sunday School Class. He also served as former Chairman of the Administrative Board for the First United Methodist Church of Thomson. Mr. Blasingame was awarded the Paul Harris Fella Award from the Thomson Rotary Club for his dedicated service. Survivors include his wife, Lora Lancaster Blasingame; son, Ben Blasingame and wife Janie Kate of Thomson; grandchildren, Mary Beth Blasingame, Sarah Kate Blasingame, Clay Blasingame, Marcus Ferguson and Mollie Ferguson. Mr. Blasingame was preceded in death by his daughter, Lee Ann Blasingame Ferguson.
