Brenda Lou Murphy Thigpen

McDuffie County

Brenda Lou Murphy Thigpen, 73, Thomson, Georgia, entered into rest on October 15, 2024.

Brenda was born on August 9, 1951, in the same house that her dad, aunts and uncles on the Murphy side as well as most of her siblings were born.  She grew up in the country near the small town of Luthersville, Georgia.  She graduated from Greenville High School (GHS) in Meriwether County, Georgia, and also graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton, Georgia with an associate's degree as a legal secretary. At ABAC, she met her future husband, Walley Thigpen, and they have lived in McDuffie County since 1985.  By being raised so far out in the country, Brenda was not able to participate in high school sports, but she did win the shorthand award at her high school in 1969.  Because she was the only winner at GHS, she did not get to travel to Macon for the state championship in shorthand, which we all know she would have won.  Brenda was Baptist by faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Warrenton since 1979.  She enjoyed raising her children, helping with her grandchildren, shopping at Hamrick's and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Brenda is preceded by death by her parents, James "Jim" Murphy and Beatrice Rowe Murphy; her sister, Kathryn Purnell; her sister-in-law, Juanita Murphy and her brother-in-law, Bill Beck.  Her survivors include her husband of 52 years, Walley Thigpen; her sons, Ben Thigpen (Suzi) and Chris Thigpen (Mallory); her daughter, Elizabeth J. Thigpen (Johnny) Kraps; her brothers, Arnold Murphy and Larry Murphy; her sister, Mavis Beck and her grandchildren, Garrett Byrd, Ava Thigpen, Jackson Thigpen, Caroline Thigpen, Lane Thigpen and Hannah Thigpen-Kraps.

Her visitation will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia.  A visitation will also be held at First Baptist Church of Warrenton, 206 Norwood Street, Warrenton, Georgia 30828, Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to her Funeral Service, being officiated by Dr. Brandon Furr, which will begin at 11:00 a.m., with her interment at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens following the service.  Pallbearers for the services are her grandsons, Garrett Byrd, Jackson Thigpen, Lane Thigpen, Winfred Murphy, Lynn Thigpen, David Thigpen and George Thigpen. Please visit www.beggsfuneralhome.net to sign the family's personal guestbook.

Memorials in her name may be made to First Baptist Church of Warrenton, P. O. Box 512, Warrenton, Georgia 30828 or the American Liver Foundation, by mail or on-line: American Liver foundation P. O. Box 299, West Orange, NJ 07052 or www.liverfoundation.org

The Family would like to express their sincerest thanks to all of those who prayed for Brenda.  She is at home at last.
