Ben Hill Wells

Mr. Ben Hill Wells, entered into rest Sunday, May 22 at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Wells, born on May 14, 1930, was the son of the late Clarence Walker Wells, Sr. and Mattie Martin Wells. On October 2 nd , 1947, he married Glinda Alicia Goldman and was married to her for 3 days short of 67 years when she passed away in 2014. Together, they raised their two children and ran an egg production business on the same farm where Glinda was born. In addition to his children he had many nieces and nephews whom he loved and nurtured throughout his life. He was a very active member of Hephzibah Baptist Church and had served as Treasurer and Deacon for many years as well as Choir member, and served on several committees in particular house and grounds and nominating committees. He served his country in Korea, became an electrician and had his own electrical contracting business on the side while continuing to work for DuPont at the Savannah River Plant in security, where he became a Lieutenant and was in charge of the Emergency Operations Center when he was on duty, all of this while supporting the family cattle and egg business. He retired from DuPont in 1989 and had a long and happy retirement. He loved the Lord and always strove for excellence. He loved football and was a season's ticket holder for Red Devil home games for many years. While he spent most of his life as a resident of Lincolnton, he spent 2 years living in Charleston in the early 1940's where he learned how to manage business and finances as a young paper boy responsible for the delivery of over 500 newspapers per day, personally delivering 100 himself and managing several other boys to deliver the rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Glinda Wells, brother, Clarence Walker Wells, Sr. sisters Mary Wells Applegate and Daisy Wells Price.
