Barbara Muszar Smith

Mrs. Barbara Helen Muszar Smith passed away on July 23, 2015 in Augusta, GA. Daughter of William Joseph Muszar, Sr. and the late Lois June Muszar, Barbara was born  August 1, 1957 in New Orleans, Louisiana and grew up in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.  She was the Valedictorian of her 1975 high school class at St. Martin High School and received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Animal Sciences from North Carolina State University. After being a home maker and seeing her children start school, Barbara taught science at Hephzibah, Washington-Wilkes, Thomson, and Lincoln County High Schools until 2006. Barbara was a member of the church of Christ and involved in many of the ministries at the congregation at Central in Martinez, Ga. Barbara married the late Fredrick Leroy Smith, Jr. of Woodville, MS, the love of her life, on December 16, 1978 in the Chapel of Memories at Mississippi State University. She leaves behind a legacy of remarkable courage and nurturing compassion. Her example of what it means to be a godly woman, wife, and mother will be remembered and cherished by her family. Barbara is survived by her father: William J. Muszar, Sr. (Ocean Springs, MS); her siblings: William J. Muszar Jr. (Abilene, TX) and Tullea Venus (Ocean Springs, MS); her children: Danielle Ramsey and husband, Mike (Hephzibah, GA), Cassie Jo Saggus and husband, Mark (Grovetown, GA), Jason Smith (Lincolnton, GA), and Matthew Smith (Lincolnton, GA); and her grandchildren: Gracie Smith and Carter Saggus A Celebration of Life will be held at the Central Church of Christ, 3650 Old Petersburg Rd. , Augusta, Ga. on Saturday, August 15th  from 2PM until 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (theaftd.org) for research and advocacy.
