Audrey Geneva Butler

Miss Audrey G. Butler, 90 of Saddlebrook Ct., Lincolnton, Ga. entered into rest on Friday, August 9, 2019 at her residence.

Miss Butler, daughter of the late Lemuel M. and Eva Inez Albea Butler, was born on July 22, 1929, grew up in the Broad community near Tignall. After graduating from Tignall High School in 1946, she went to live with her sister Kathryn who had moved to Atlanta during World War II. Shortly thereafter, she began a career as a switchboard operator with Southern Bell.  During that time, Audrey became the first woman to hold a managerial position in the Atlanta office which later became Bellsouth and is now AT&T.  She had always lived with her sister, even after Kathryn married Richard Dill in 1961 until his death in 1981. They enjoyed entertaining and would often have catered parties at their home. For many years, the two sisters enjoyed travelling the world which included over 30 trips to England. In 2001, they moved to Florida to be near their brother Tom, and eventually to Lincolnton in 2011 after having their home in Florida duplicated on property in Saddlebrook.  Through Kathryn's illness with Alzheimer's,  Audrey saw to her every need until she passed away in 2013.  She had been a member of Ansley Golf Club, Atlanta, and was a lifelong member of Beulah Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Gerald W. Butler, Henry M. Butler, Harold Albea Butler, Thomas Butler and sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Dill, Mrs. Imogene Huguley, and Mrs. Esther Bodie.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Faye Butler and Margie Butler; nieces and nephews W.R. Butler, Jerry Butler, Ronnie M. Huguley, Gail Huff, Sandra H. Brown, Kathy H. Varner, Brenda B. West, Ronald Butler, Marion A. Butler, Richard N. Butler, Debra B. Helwig, Suzan B. Hogan, Gay B. White, Jan B. Bentley, Sherrie B. Hill, Leesa B. Burney, Randall Butler, Lynn Anderson and Billie Kicklighter.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Beulah Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 2pm in the church sanctuary. Revs. Ellis Moore and Paul Reviere will officiate. Interment will follow on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 1p.m. at Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs, Ga.
