Mr. Arthur Berkeley Fergusson III, known affectionately as Art to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, in Greenwood, SC. Born on May 1, 1945, in Richmond, VA, Art's journey through life was marked by his unwavering kindness, love, and thoughtfulness. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and generosity that will be cherished by all who knew him. Art was the beloved husband of Sharon Steeg Fergusson, with whom he shared 53 years of devoted marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared passions. Art's commitment to his family was evident in every aspect of his life, and his presence as a steadfast partner, confidant, and friend will be profoundly missed. A proud graduate of Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Art carried the lessons and experiences from his alma mater throughout his life and he was also proud of his service to our country in the Air Force for four years. His professional journey as a salesman for Snap-On Tools and Oshman Sporting Goods was marked by his charismatic personality and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Art's colleagues and customers alike will remember him for his genuine interest in their stories and his knack for making everyone feel valued. For the last 23 years, Art made his home in Savannah Lakes Village, where he was an active and cherished member of the community. His love for sports, which began with playing first baseman in softball during his college years, continued as he played for his churches in Atlanta and McCormick. Art's competitive spirit and camaraderie on the field were matched only by his sportsmanship and the friendships he forged through the game. Art's faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a dedicated member of the Lutheran Church by the Lake. His leadership as the past president of the men's group at his church was a testament to his commitment to service and community. Art's involvement extended beyond the walls of the church, as he was an avid worker at Habitat for Humanity, helping to build homes and hope for those in need. An outdoorsman at heart, Art found solace and joy in the natural world. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting turkeys, and deer, pursuits that allowed him to appreciate the beauty and tranquility of nature. These moments of reflection and connection to the earth were a source of great happiness for Art. One of Art's most endearing hobbies was his love for model trains. His eyes would light up with childlike wonder as he meticulously set up and operated his miniature locomotives and railroads. This passion was more than a pastime; it was a canvas for his creativity and a way for him to share stories and history with others. Art's character was the epitome of what it means to be loving, kind, and thoughtful. He approached each day with a heart full of grace and a desire to make a positive impact on those around him. His gentle spirit and generous nature were the hallmarks of a life well-lived, and his memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we bid farewell to Mr. Arthur Berkeley Fergusson III, we celebrate a life that was rich in experiences and abundant in love. Art's journey may have come to a close, but the impressions he left on the hearts of his family, friends, and community will endure forever. He will be deeply missed, but the stories of his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering positivity will be retold and remembered for generations to come.
