Abbe Barbara Adele Rowland, 67 entered into rest on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Thomson Health and Rehabilitation.
Abbe was a woman whose life was defined by love, love for her family, love for beauty and most of all, the immeasurable love she had for her three boys. Born on November 6, 1958, to James and Daphne Rowland, Abbe grew up at Bethany Church, where she was surrounded by the people and traditions that would become such an important part of her life.
To know Abbe was to know just how much her family meant to her. They were her heartbeat and her entire world. Abbe was, without a doubt, a Daddy’s girl. She adored her father and looked up to him with a love and admiration that never faded. Later in life, she was given the beautiful opportunity to care for him from 2020 until 2024. She poured the same love and devotion into caring for her father that she had received from him throughout her own life. To Abbe, her three boys were her life. When her boys grew older, built families of their own, and become fathers themselves, in Abbe’s heart, they would always be her boys. Her love for Jeremy, Benjamin, and Hamilton was evident to everyone who knew her. She celebrated them, worried over them, supported them, and loved them with her whole heart. Her family knew that no matter what life brought, her boys would always have a place where they were loved completely and unconditionally. That love continued through her grandchildren: Tyler Dawkins, Lalla Dawkins, Lucy Dawkins, Abigail Wilson, Chandler Caston, Bryson Dawkins, Lillie Dawkins, Anna Mae Dawkins, McKenzie Loveland, Olivia Dawkins, and Ava Dawkins, and her great-grandchildren, Drake Dawkins and Oliver Wilson. Her family was her greatest accomplishment and her most treasured blessing.
Abbe’s life was also marked by a beautiful sense of style and creativity. She possessed an unmistakable gift for decorating and floral arrangements. She had an eye for elegance and could take an ordinary space and make it feel extraordinary. She shared this gift with her dear friend Helen Bridges, and together they created beautiful memories that will never be forgotten. Abbe especially loved helping with her family’s weddings. From the flowers to the smallest details, she gave each celebration her time, talent, and heart. She didn’t simply decorate weddings, she helped create memories that her children and grandchildren will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
She served with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department from January 1987 until September 1995. From 1997 to 2001, she worked alongside her father and her three boys at A & J Welding & Boat Docks, a family business that gave them precious years working side by side. She later worked in real estate from 2003 to 2007 and at Lincolnton Marine alongside her son Jeremy from 2012 to 2018. Her working years were filled not only with jobs, but with opportunities to be close to the people she loved. Abbe carried herself with a quiet elegance that was uniquely her own. She was the essence of southern class, beauty, grace, and femininity. She had a way of making people feel welcomed and making the moments around her feel special. Beneath all of that elegance was a woman with a tremendous heart who loved her family. A Mother that cherished her three boys and adored her grandchildren. A woman who found joy in making things beautiful and a woman whose greatest joy was simply her family being together.
Abbe was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She leaves behind her three sons, Jeremy Dawkins and his wife, Kelli; Benjamin Dawkins and his wife, Rebecca and Hamilton Dawkins and his wife, Melissa; her mother Daphne W. Rowland; and her brother, Tony Rowalnd and his wife, Cherry. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, James Rowland, and her dearest friend, Helen Bridges.
Her absence will leave an emptiness that words cannot fill, yet her family will continue to find her in the beautiful things she left behind. She will be remembered in the flowers she arranged, the homes she made beautiful, the family celebrations she helped create and most of all, in the love that lives on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For her boys, there will always be a piece of Abbe in everything they do. They will carry her love with them, just as she carried them in her heart every day of her life. Abbe’s greatest legacy was not the work she accomplished or the beautiful things she created, it was the family she loved so fiercely, it was her boys. They were her world, her purpose, her heartbeat, her pride and one of the greatest blessings of her life. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and lovingly remembered.
