Ollie Mercier passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019. He was born on November 20, 1936, to the late Zack Mercier and Leola Jones Mercier of Lincolnton, GA. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Marvin Mercier and Lizzie Dill White; one daughter, Leomia Mercier Elam; and one granddaughter, Crystal Rochelle Elam. Ollie attended the Wilkes County School System. He married Lizzie Lee Mims on December 30, 1956. Together they had six children, during their 62 years of marriage. Ollie started driving trucks for Henry Will Partridge, doing long haul drives. Later, he was employed by Pollard Lumber Company in Appling, GA, where he retired after more than 40 years of service. He drove 18-wheelers for over 50 years. “Pop” Ollie was a good-hearted man - loyal, generous, and hard working. He was a dedicated and baptized Jehovah’s Witness. He loved his family and driving trucks. Fellow truckers who did not know him by name, knew his handle, “Junkyard Dog”, far and wide. He was an avid baseball fan and loved his Atlanta Braves. Ollie loved being surrounded by his family, even when he was not feeling his best.
Ollie Mercier is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lizzie Lee Mims Mercier, and two sisters, Rupert Mercier Rouse and Annette Mercier Tutt, both of Lincolnton, GA; and one brother, Burch Mercier, of Lincolnton, GA. He leaves five children to cherish his memory: John (Alma) Mercier, David (Cynthia) Mercier, and Jacqueline (Willie) Murray, all of Lincolnton, GA; Ollie Ronnie (Demestrus) Mercier of Rayle, GA; and Linda (Scott) Messenger of Charlotte, NC. Eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren mourn the loss of their Pop: Tania (Travis) Hall, Cortney (Shawn) Davis, Johnterra (April) Mercier, Brandon Elam, Ashton (Craig) Jones, Blake Murray, Ryan (Virginia) Mercier, Colbi Murray, Hannah Messenger, Andrew Elam, and Ryanna Mercier (grandchildren); Makala Mercier, Alicia Hall, Alexus Hall, Tabitha Hall, Caitlin Drake, JaMarion Elam, Chase Elam, Harmonee Mercier, Ariana Velez and Jax Mercier (great-grandchildren).
